B. Planning
of Future and Ongoing District Public Outreach Efforts
1. Jersey Island Internship: Committee decided to
move ahead with internship for summer 2013. One Freedom High School student
would be accepted.
2. FOG program: Looked over designs for the new
FOG House art. Committee accepted lighthouse theme. Decided to have lighthouse
designed for side of building along with sign.
Committee
discussed funnels and artwork on both sides of funnel to hand out as
promotional materials. The color discussed was green with white ink with logo
on one side and text on how to dispose on other. Agreed to order 300 funnels.
Committee also
discussed purchasing lighthouse shaped magnets that listed information on how
to recycle FOG and where to bring it for disposal. Committee decided to order
1,000 magnets.
Opening of new
FOG House set for April 27. This is the same day as Oakley Science Week event.
Offer a raffle for free dinner for those who bring FOG for recycling to opening
event.
3. ISD sign update: Committee discussed two
directional signs on Main Street and the city sign fees. Committee directed
Roni to design signs and bring them back to the next meeting.
4. Oakley Science Week Program activities; new
canopy: Committee discussed the Oakley Science Week program set for April 27,
2013. The event will be co-hosted with Delta Science Center and Diablo Water
District. ISD will offer hayride tours of the facility and show bacteria slides
through microscopes and on monitors.
Committee
discussed handing out funnels, left over grocery bags and magnets at event.
Advertising for event will be done through ISD newsletter, fliers, the Oakley
Press, banner and city advertising.
The Native Bird
Connection has agreed to bring four birds to the show. They do not guarantee
which birds are going to be brought out, however they said they would work on
bringing at least a hawk, owl and falcon. They have agreed to show the birds
throughout the whole time of the event and then do a 50-minute to one-hour show
in the middle of the day. The $500 donation will be split with the Delta
Science Center and Ironhouse.
The committee
gave the go ahead to purchase the second 20x20 canopy that was planned into the
budget before the Oakley Science Week event.
5. Delta Science Center Learning Lab update: An
update to the Learning Lab on Jersey Island was given. Not much more
information was spoken about since the program had not started yet.
6. April newsletter story ideas: The spring
newsletter was discussed. Story content was spoken about. Instead of sending
out the 5x7 post card, the committee decided to save money and send the June
public hearing on rates in the newsletter on the back page. This will give the
60 day required notice. Since this card is just sent out as a courtesy the
committee found that it was okay to do it in this format. Plan for newsletter
is to send it out for printing week of the April 15 and in mail mid-week April
22.
7. Salinity Pollution Prevention Plan: This
discussion was moved until next meeting.
C. Discussion
on future items for Outreach Committee meetings: Cityhood Day and donation.
D. Adjournment:
