A. Public Comments
B. Planning of Future and Ongoing District
Public Outreach Efforts
1. Salt Campaign
Now that the Ordinance No. 57 Water Softener
Regulation Ordinance has been approved by the Board the Outreach committee is
working on developing a brochure that will handed out by request from the
public, developers and plumbers that will give a detailed list of softeners
that can and cannot be used.
The committee also discussed
clarifying the term “Brine Discharging” water softeners because we had not used
that terminology before in previous newsletters and documentation on the
subject.
The committee talked about making sure
that the arrangement with Diablo Water District and funds to help promote the
campaign are documented before ISD General Manager Tom Williams retires.
2. Biosolids Campaign
The committee discussed the Biosolids
Pilot Program Workshop set for Feb. 11. The workshop would include a Power
Point slideshow presentation on the program and a brochure to hand out to the
public. Ideas were presented and discussed.
3. Distinction Award preparation
The committee discussed the reduction
in cost of applying for the award and the need to complete the policies binder
to take advantage of the deal.
4. Operational Issues Associated with low
transmittance and high salinity at the WRF.
The committee spoke about attending a
special Bethel Island workshop on the issue and the need to let the Bethel
Island community know the problems with draining backyard debris into the sewer
system. A town hall meeting is set for March 3.
5. Oakley Science Week – April 25, 2015
Topic ideas for the Oakley Science
Week event were discussed. There is a group that does Bat presentations and the
committee agreed that could be a good topic for the event. The committee
discussed costs and a budget for the activity.
6. 70th Anniversary event 2015
The committee discussed with General
Manager Tom Williams what his vision for the 70th Anniversary
celebration would be. Mr. Williams will be retiring before the event takes
place and the committee listened to his suggestions and took notes for ideas to
explore.
7. Freedom High School Poster sponsorship
Two Freedom High School advertising
organizations asked for ad placement by ISD for their upcoming sports poster
and freshmen folder. The committee decided against advertising in either this
year feeling our funds would be better used elsewhere considering the upcoming
events like the Oakley Science Week and 70th Anniversary.
C. Discussion on future items for Outreach
Committee meetings
The committee discussed taking a
future field trip to the Dublin San Ramon Service District to see the
District’s recycled water distribution center and how it works.
